Required Items:

  • Fine open link chain with large enough links to accept a jump ring (silver plated, 20 inches)
  • 20 gauge craft wire (silver tone, 3 inches)
  • Small trigger clasp (silver plated)
  • Small oval jump rings (silver plated, 2)
  • Round nose pliers
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Wire Cutters
  • Ruler
  • 1 each of the following 4mm Czech fire polish beads:
  • Garnet
  • Opaque Red
  • Ruby Silver Lined
  • Fuchsia
  • Pearl Fuchsia
  • Coated Hot Pink
  • Milky Pink

Place the 20 gauge wire in your needle nose pliers about 1/2 inch from one end. Using your finger, bend the wire firmly against the sharp edge of the pliers. This should form a crisp 90 degree angle or “corner.”

Use your round nose pliers to form a loop, centered directly above the wire.

Cut your chain into two pieces, according to your desired finished necklace length.  (For a 16 inch necklace, cut two 7 1/4 inch pieces of chain.  For an 18 in necklace, cut two 8 1/4 inch pieces of chain.  For a 20 inch necklace, cut two 9 1/4 inch pieces of chain.) String the last link of one piece of chain onto the wire, making sure the chain is inside the wire loop and can move freely.

Using your needle nose pliers, support the wire loop.

Wrap the short piece of wire around the long piece of wire two or three times to secure the loop.

Carefully cut off any excess wire.

Tap down any rough edges with your needle nose pliers, so your loop is nicely finished.

Straighten your wire carefully.  String on beads in the following order to create the dark red to baby pink ombré: garnet, opaque red, ruby silver lined, fuchsia, pearl fuchsia, coated hot pink, milky pink.

Hold onto the wire with your needle nose pliers, just above the beads.

Use your round nose pliers to form a loop.  String the last link of the other piece of chain onto the wire, making sure the chain is inside the wire loop and can move freely.  Wrap the loop closed and cut off any excess wire.

Locate the chain on the dark red side of the necklace.  Open one oval jump ring and string on the end link of the chain and the trigger clasp.

Carefully close the jump ring.

Add a jump ring to the last link of the other piece of chain.  Carefully close the jump ring.
