London’s Fall 2017 Color Trends from Pantone

.

It’s a big deal guys…for the first time ever Pantone, the leading authority on color trends, has released a London Fashion Color Report in addition to its standard New York Fashion Color Report.  Fun fact: did you know Karen Thompson, Bead World’s fabulous owner, is from the U.K?  Sure, we live in the U.S., but when your owner is from the other side of the pond you have to celebrate the London Color Report too!!  Last month we covered the New York Color Report, but if you fancy more of a British style, then this post is for you!

.

Both New York and London showcased similar colors, but the London color trends have some intriguing & unexpected twists.  Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, said “the [London] color palette for Autumn/Winter 2017/2018 is comprised of strong classics colors complemented by a few unpredictable shades for the autumn and winter seasons.  Unexpected combinations such as Royal Lilac and Otter Brown or Lemon Curry with Bluebell are eye-arresting and create an unusual color dichotomy.”

.

Ready for a closer look at each of these eye-catching colors??  Here they are with our favorite gemstone picks for each:

.

Pantone Fall 2017 London Flame Scarlet Coral

Slightly more vivid than New York’s Grenadine, London’s Flame Scarlet is bold, confident, powerful, and strong!  Think of this like the red lipstick of your fall color palette — it’s sure to make a statement!!  Coral mimics not only the color, but also the strong, bold vibe of Flame Scarlet.

.

Pantone Fall 2017 London Primrose Pink rose quartz

Primrose Pink is embracing and gentle.  It brings a gorgeous subtlety and calmness to what is otherwise a pretty bold and interesting color line-up.  Primrose Pink seems very similar to New York’s Ballet Slipper, but it is slightly more muted.  I love Rose Quartz to match Primrose Pink’s color and calm, embracing energy.

.

Pantone Fall 2017 London Toast Mystic Quartz

Next up is Toast…wait, what?  Yes, this color is called Toast.  It’s more peachy than my average toast, but we’ll go with it!  Slightly lighter than New York’s Butterum, Toast also adds a little winter warmth and invokes feelings of an autumn fire.  Our Mystic Quartz rondelles have this same warm feeling with a hint of peach.

.

Pantone Fall 2017 London Blue Bell Aquamarine rounds

Much lighter & brighter than Marina, it’s New York counterpart, Blue Bell is meant to be a tranquil blue that reflects connection and a soothing sense of peace.  What is more perfect for Blue Bell than Aquamarine??  Even energetically Aquamarine calms, releases stress, and aids in communication.

.

Pantone Fall 2017 London Royal Lilac Purple Crazy Lace Agate

Completely unique to London’s color palette and totally unexpected, Royal Lilac adds a vivid pop of color!!  I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though…a vivid purple reminiscent of royalty makes perfect sense in London!  Channel your inner royalty with our Purple Crazy Lace Agate.

.

Pantone Fall 2017 London Otter Matte Wood Opalite

Replacing the Neutral Gray from New York is London’s earthy, grounded Otter.  It is interesting to note that the staple neutral in London’s color trends is this gorgeous brown rather than a gray or black.  Try this rooted hue with Matte Wood Opalite.

.

Pantone Fall 2017 Navy Peony Dumortierite

Making it’s appearance in both New York and London’s color line-ups, Navy Peony is rich, anchoring, solid & stable.  It is a mainstay in both color palettes and will be acting as a neutral for this fall!  We’re sticking with Dumortierite to represent the the depth & stability of Navy Peony.  Load up on your rich, deep blues!!  I think we’ll see a lot of this gorgeous color this fall!

.

Pantone Fall 2017 London Copper Tan Pink Botswana Agate

Another lighter (and peachier) color pick, New York’s Autumn Maple is replaced with London’s Copper Tan.  Pantone calls this “a burnished shade known for its welcoming warmth”, but it feels much brighter and livelier to me — more like a summery shade with a hint of autumn thrown in.  Pink Botswana Agate is a fun way to pull off this peachy stunner!!

.

Pantone Fall 2017 London Lemon Curry Whiskey Quartz

Ok, so Lemon Curry was a little difficult for me to get on board with at first, but then I realized I finally have an excuse for the absolutely gorgeous Whiskey Quartz that I’m always eye-balling.  EEK!!  Its important to be on trend…I’ll use any excuse to justify one of my favorite gemstones!  Lemon Curry is exotic and spicy. It adds a Middle Eastern flair to the London colors.

.

Pantone Fall 2017 London Golden Olive Green Dragon Serpentine

One more time with a lighter version of the New York variation, Golden Lime gives way to Golden Olive in the U.K.  This color is sturdy and strong!  We’ve selected our Green Dragon Serpentine for this unique trend color.

.

The most interesting aspect about having both a New York & London color palette this year was comparing the two.  For the most part, they contain very similar colors, just in slightly different tones, but the color line-ups as a whole look drastically different.  When you compare color-by-color, 7 out of the 10 colors are pretty even matches for each other.  Only 3 colors from each palette were distinctly different from the other, and those three colors completely altered the the feel and vibe of the trends.  It just goes to show you how little tweaks can make such a big impact!!

.

Soooo….thoughts??  Are you more of a New York or a London?  I think the New York palette speaks more to my core, but I might try to mix it up with some of the brighter U.K. hues this fall!  I can’t wait to hear how you feel about it though!!

Happy Beading!
