Gemstone of the Month: Mookaite

Gemstone of the Month: Mookaite

Mookaite (pronounced moo-ka-ITE) is a member of the Jasper family.  It is found exclusively near Mooka Creek in the Kennedy Ranges in Western Australia (hence the name Mookaite).  Mookaite is also sometimes called Australian Jasper since it comes solely from Australia.  It has been used as a healing stone by Australian Aboriginals before explorers even arrived in Australia.  It is a rather hard gemstone with a mohs hardness of 6-7.  Mookaite is known for it’s signature yellow & red colors, but it can also be shades of burgundy, mauve, berry red, pink, purple, and cream.  All these colors form a beautiful naturally occurring color palate, so stunning all on its own that you don’t need to add any other design elements if you don’t want to.

My favorite metaphysical property of Mookaite (and the reason why I wanted to showcase it this month) is that it is my go-to stone for new experiences and new adventures.  Because of this, I love the idea of using Mookaite to help with your New Year’s resolutions.  It encourages your desire for new experiences and fills you with the calm you need to go head-on into them.  It also boosts flexibility and versatility, helping you to see multiple paths and to choose the best one.  Mookaite is motivating and stops procrastination, especially helpful for those who have a resolution they’ve been stalling on for a while.  It increases personal power, self-confidence, and self-worth.  Meanwhile, the earthy nature of Mookaite (and all Jaspers) keeps you grounded and stable while fostering these new adventures.

Physically, Mookaite boosts strength and vitality.  It is believed to stave off the effects of aging.  It also fortifies the immune system, balances the minerals within your body, soothes the digestive system, and reduces stress.

Grab some Mookaite to take you on new adventures in 2018 & help you reach your New Year’s Resolutions!
