Learn to make your own super trendy embellished bangle bracelets!  You can feature whatever gems or beads you like, and create a fabulous stack of gorgeous arm candy!  Best of all, it’s inexpensive and easy.  Trust me, you can do this.

You will need:

  • 18 gauge craft wire (10 feet)
  • gems or beads to feature (3 big ones or 9 small ones)
  • wire cutters
  • flat nose pliers or needle nose pliers
  • ruler
  • bracelet mandrel or firm slant edged glass
  • a bangle that fits you well OR
  • a measuring tape
  • Optional: 20 gauge craft wire (6 feet) if your beads have smaller holes

The easiest way to get an awesome fit is to place a bangle that fits you very well on your bracelet mandrel or slant edged glass.  Note where your bracelet sits.  This is where you’ll align your wire in the next step to get a perfect fit.  (If you don’t have a bangle bracelet, bring the tips of your fingers and thumb together like you’re putting on a bangle.  Use a measuring tape to measure around the largest part of your hand.  Then find that measurement on your bracelet mandrel or slant edged glass.)

Cut four feet of 18 gauge wire.  Wrap your wire around your mandrel or glass five times, aligning carefully with the correct size.  Hold the wire in place with your thumb.  Make sure you have 3-4 inches extra on each side of your thumb to securely wrap the bangle closed.

Carefully slide the wire off the mandrel or glass, holding the wire so it stays in the same position.  This is the base of your bracelet.  Use your flat nose pliers or needle nose pliers to bend one side of the extra wire at a 90 degree angle.

Wrap the wire firmly around the bracelet 3-4 times.  Make sure the wrap is very tight.  Cut off any excess wire and tap the end down with your flat nose pliers or needle nose pliers.

Very near the wrap you just completed, use your pliers to bend the other extra wire at a 90 degree angle.

Wrap the wire firmly around the bracelet 3-4 times.  Make sure the wrap is very tight.

2015-05-12 11.07.24

Cut off any excess wire and tap the end down with your flat nose pliers or needle nose pliers.  You’re bangle is finished.  Now it’s time to embellish it!

2015-05-12 11.08.30

Cut a 2 foot piece of 18 gauge wire.  Check your gems to make sure they will all fit on the 18 gauge wire.  (You can use 20 gauge wire if necessary, but I wouldn’t recommend going smaller.)  One one side of the bracelet securing wraps, wrap the 2 foot wire 3-4 times around the bangle.  Make sure the wrap is very tight.

2015-05-12 11.08.50

Cut off any excess wire and tap the end down with your flat nose pliers or needle nose pliers.

2015-05-12 11.09.13

Bend the wire into a 90 degree angle about 1/4 inch from the wrap.  This will allow the bead or beads to lay flat against the bangle.

String on one large bead or three smaller beads.  We used large hole pearls here.

2015-05-12 11.10.19

Bend the wire into a 90 degree angle just after the final bead.

2015-05-12 11.10.40

Wrap the wire around the bangle 1 1/2 times, pulling very firmly.

2015-05-12 11.35.29

Wrap the wire very firmly under the bead or beads.

2015-05-12 11.35.43

You should have enough wire to wrap around the bead or beads five times, creating a wire bezel.

2015-05-12 11.36.18

Wrap the extra wire 3-4 times around the bangle, pulling very firmly.  This will anchor the bead unit to the bangle.

2015-05-12 11.36.32

Cut off any excess wire and firmly tap the end down with your flat nose pliers or needle nose pliers.

2015-05-12 11.41.41

Cut another 2 foot piece of wire and repeat all steps to add a second bead unit to the bangle.

2015-05-12 11.45.05

Cut another 2 foot piece of wire and repeat all steps to add a third bead unit to the bangle.  Your bracelet is finished!

Awesome post! Great instructions. I’m going to try your method. I’ve made some of these, but with 20 gauge wire. I was going to try going up a gauge size. Glad you suggested.

best thing to use for wrapping and holds the bracelet form better, is a full, unopened soda can.
