Pantone is known throughout the world for being the go-to expert on color trends!!  They release seasonal color trends as well as a main color for each year, and their reports have an impact on every trend based industry you can think of: marketing, home decor, fashion…and of course jewelry.  Every fall I wait excitedly for the color of the year to be released.  It’s always so fun to see what the prevalent color of the next year will be and to begin dreaming up new jewelry designs.  The 2018 color of the year has finally been announced…this year Pantone is bringing the drama with ULTRA VIOLET!!!

.

The color of the year tends to mirror what we need at the time.  According to Pantone, Ultra Violet is inventive & imaginative, representing originality, ingenuity, & visionary thinking.  It is meant to propel us into the future with the creativity and inspiration needed to find a new reality that we may not have known before.  Ultra Violet points to spiritual connection, mindfulness, and exploration of all the newness that is to come.  Furthermore, with all the pop culture icons who have gravitated towards purples (David Bowie, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, etc), Ultra Violet symbolizes non-conformity, experimentation, boundary pushing, and artistic expression.  This seems like the perfect hue for those of us in creative & artsy industries like jewelry design!

Ultra Violet is not just any shade of purple.  It’s more of a blue-based purple – think “Prince purple”.  You can use various shades of this color and still be on trend though.  In fact, the leading shade typically varies throughout the year depending on the season.  The trick will be to stick to a blue-based purple and to find tones that represent the inspirational qualities of Ultra Violet.  Here are some of my favorite products from Bead World that evoke Ultra Violet:
